Purpose
Provides grant funds to eligible students demonstrating financial need who complete community service requirements.
Funds may be used toward the cost of attendance at eligible colleges, universities, or technical colleges in Georgia.
Eligibility
- Be a recipient of Pell Grant for the term for which COG is sought;
- Have an EFC in the range determined by GSFC;
- For the 2010-2011 academic year, eligible students must have a $0 EFC, as calculated by the FAFSA.
- Be enrolled as a fulltime (12 hours) undergraduate student seeking a college degree at a unit of the University System of Georgia or the Technical College System of Georgia;
- Be a resident of Georgia 12 months prior to the term for which aid is sought;
- Be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen;
- Complete Community Service requirements at a Non-Profit organization;
- For the 2010-2011 academic year, students must complete 10 hours of community service for each quarter of payment or 20 hours of community service for each semester of payment. Community Service requirements must be met before the student is awarded the College Opportunity Grant.
- Be in compliance with Selective Service registration requirements;
- Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990;
- Not be in default or owe a refund on a student financial aid program; and
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress, as defined by the college
