North Georgia College and State
University Military Scholarship Loan Program
The North Georgia College and State University (NGCSU) Military
Scholarship Loan Program is a service cancelable loan program
funded by the State of Georgia and administered by the Georgia
Student Finance Commission (GSFC).
The program provides full scholarships to enable outstanding
Georgia students interested in pursuing a military career to attend
North Georgia College and State University, one of the nation's
most prestigious senior military colleges.
Value
- A full four-year scholarship to NGCSU. Covers tuition, fees,
room, meals, books and uniforms.
- Recipients agree to serve in Georgia's Army National Guard for
eight years (four while enrolled at NGCSU and four after
graduation).
- Recipients who do not fulfill the service obligation must repay
the total amount received, plus interest, within five years.
- Principal deferments options for eligible borrowers.
- No application fees.
- No origination fees.
Eligibility Requirements
- A student must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien
who meets the definition of an eligible non-citizen under Federal
Title IV requirements.
- The student must be a legal resident of Georgia, as defined by
GSFC, for a minimum of 12 consecutive months immediately preceding
the date of registration at the institution for the school term for
which a scholarship is being sought.
- The student must qualify for regular admission to NGCSU.
- The student must have demonstrated "Academic Excellence" at the
high school level.
- The student must meet mental and physical health standards
required for commission in the Georgia National Guard.
- The student must be an entering freshman enrolled full time in
order to receive a full, four-year scholarship loan.
- A student must meet federal Title IV Selective Service
registration requirements. The requirement to register applies to
males who were born on or after January 1, 1960, are at least 18,
are citizens or eligible non-citizens, and not currently on active
duty in the armed forces.
- A student who is obligated to repay any state grant or
scholarship previously obtained from the Authority is not eligible
to receive another state grant or scholarship award until the
refund or repayment is paid in full. The student is eligible to
receive the NGCSU Military Scholarship beginning with the term in
which satisfactory repayment was made, but not for previous terms.
A student is ineligible if he or she is in default on a federal
Title IV or State of Georgia educational loan previously obtained
from or through the Authority unless the student has made
satisfactory arrangements for repayment.
- A student is ineligible if, in accordance with the Drug-Free
Post-secondary Education Act of 1990, he or she has been convicted
for committing certain felony offenses involving marijuana,
controlled substances, or dangerous drugs. A student is ineligible
to receive a NGCSU Military Scholarship from the date of conviction
to the completion of the next academic term. Institutions are not
required to obtain criminal justice records of NGCSU Military
Scholarship applicants.
Loan Forgiveness
Serve for four years in the Georgia Army National Guard after
graduation from North Georgia College and State University.

Application Procedure

. The application must be completed and
received by the Georgia Student Finance Commission by January 15 of
each year in order to be considered.
The student must complete Section A and write an essay in
Section B of the application. The student must also attach a letter
of recommendation from an administrative official at the high
school. The student must also attach an official high school
transcript, class schedule of the senior year, and the most current
SAT scores. In addition you must forward your application to a
member of the Georgia General Assembly who represents your
congressional area to complete Section C.
Loan Disbursement
Once a student is considered to be eligible for the North
Georgia College and State University Scholarship Loan program, he
or she is required to sign a promissory note to serve four years in
the Georgia National Guard beginning after graduation. The
scholarship loan funds are then disbursed to the school on the
student's behalf to cover all expenses for the four-year term of
enrollment.
