Application Information

A message from the campus:

Effective January 1, 2012, all students applying for in-state tuition must provide validation of lawful presence in the United States. The following documents will serve as proof of lawful presence in the United States and documentation will be required before you are eligible for consideration of in-state tuition:

  • A current Driver's License issued by the State of Georgia after January 1, 2008.  
  • A current ID issued by the State of Georgia after January 1, 2008. 
  • A current Driverfs License or ID issued by a state that verifies immigration status and only issues to persons lawfully present in the United States. The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) will accept the following:
    • Alabama: Issued after August 1, 2000
    • Florida: Issued after January 1, 2010 OR have a gold star in the upper right hand corner.
    • South Carolina: Issued after November 1, 2008@
    • Tennessee: Issued after May 29, 2004
    • Any State: Any valid driversf license or ID card with this gold star in the upper right hand corner gold star
  • A certified U.S. Birth Certificate showing the student was born in the U.S. or a U.S. territory. A photocopy is not acceptable.
  • An approved completed FAFSA for the current financial aid year.
  • A current, valid Permanent Resident Card (USCIS form 1-151 or 1-551).
  • A current, valid military identification card for active duty soldiers or veterans.
  • A U.S. Certificate of Birth Abroad issued by the Department of State (DS-1350) or a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240).
  • A current U.S. Passport.
  • A U.S. Certificate of Citizenship (USCIS form N-560 or N-561).
  • A U.S. Certificate of Naturalization (USCIS form N-550 or N-570). 

Any student who cannot be verified as lawfully present in the United States is not eligible to be considered for in-state tuition, regardless of how long he or she has lived in Georgia. In addition to being lawfully present in the United States, students must meet the in-state tuition requirements as outlined in TCSG Board Policy and Procedure V.B.3 to warrant an in-state classification. Students that are initially classified as out-of-state and successfully petition to have their residency changed to in-state also have to meet the verification requirement.

Application Procedures

  1. Please fill out the online application as thoroughly as possible. When you are finished, click the 'SUBMIT' button on the left column of any application screen. Print the application agreement statement that appears after you submit the application. Mail the application agreement statement with a nonrefundable $20 application fee to the address to the right.

  2. Submit an official transcript from an acceptable accredited high school or official GED test scores. Official transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing school or agency to Georgia Northwestern Technical College. High school diplomas must have been awarded by a secondary school that is accredited by a recognized accreditation agency accepted by TCSG. Students who complete a secondary program of study that is not approved by a recognized accreditation agency accepted by TCSG may be admitted to a technical college by attaining a GED or through an alternative path.   3. Students should then submit transcripts for all colleges attended. All official transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing school or agency to Georgia Northwestern Technical College.

  4. Students must take a placement exam, submit SAT, ACT, ASSET, or COMPASS scores or transfer college credit from an accredited college or postsecondary institution. (See Exemption for Placement Testing)

  5. Applicants enrolling in programs in the areas of Health Technologies and Nursing and Allied Health Technologies are required to complete additional admission procedures.

  6. 6. An online orientation program must be completed by new students and by former students absent from Georgia Northwestern Technical College more than one year. The orientation program is designed to acquaint students with college policies, procedures, and services and can be accessed at gntc.edu.

Please note: Test scores submitted must meet standard program requirements and must have been taken within the previous five years. Scores must meet the program level requirement. If scores are not appropriate, applicants will be required to take a scheduled placement test.

After you complete a screen, click the NEXT button at the bottom or on one of the sections listed on the left column to move to a different screen. Before you are allowed to jump screens, we will inspect your data on the current screen for errors or inconsistencies. If errors or omissions are found, you will be returned to the screen to correct your answer(s). Otherwise, your data will be saved and you will proceed to the requested screen. We also allow you to skip to another screen without your new data being saved. Be aware that if you use the Skip & Jump function on the left column, data on the current screen will not be saved and will have to be reentered prior to submittal.
