FAFSA Completion Data

Increasing completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a key initiative in Georgia and nationwide. Research has shown 90% of high school graduates who filed a FAFSA enrolled directly in a postsecondary program.

The Georgia Student Finance Commission actively promotes the importance of FAFSA completion through College Goal Georgia events across the state. Now, GAfutures offers two views of FAFSA completion with more comprehensive and easily accessible information for schools, parents and communities. In particular, these views provide information to help high schools more effectively assist students in completing FAFSAs and monitor their progress.

FSA (Federal Student Aid) Only View
The FSA Only View displays the number of FAFSAs completed by Georgia high school students:

  • Class of 2017 (2017/2018 FAFSA Cycle) through September 30, 2017
  • Class of 2018 (2018/2019 FAFSA Cycle) through the date of the report

Data source for this view is FAFSAs submitted (by applicants) to Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education.

  • To identify applicants who likely are high school seniors (consistent with FSA reporting), data displayed in this view only include FAFSAs of first-time filing applicants no older than 19 years old who will receive their high school diploma by the start of the school year to which they are applying for aid.
  • Since school names are entered by the applicant the number of completed FAFSAs shown by high school may not represent an exact count.

The FSA Only view displays information whether or not GSFC has received student transcripts from a high school.

FSA & Transcript View

The FSA & Transcript View displays FAFSA completion rates among Georgia high schools:

  • Class of 2017 (2017/2018 FAFSA Cycle) through September 30, 2017
  • Class of 2018 (2018/2019 FAFSA Cycle) through the date of the report

This view reflects FSA FAFSA data corresponding to student transcripts received by GSFC from Georgia high schools (rather than relying only on information provided by FAFSA applicants). If GSFC has not received student transcripts from a high school no data for the school will be displayed.

Data Details

  • Similar to Federal Student Aid (FSA) reporting, data for schools with fewer than five FAFSA completions have been redacted. The corresponding cells in the tables for these schools will be blank. Completed FAFSAs from these schools, however, are included in state totals and year over year percent/percentage point difference calculations.
  • The “% Difference” and “% Point Difference” in the tables will not calculate for schools without 2016 or 2017 data displayed.
  • Data in both the FSA Only View and FSA & Transcript View are dynamic and updated weekly. As a result, numbers displayed may be higher or lower than an earlier period.
  • GSFC and its affiliated agencies do not verify this data for accuracy.
